model 12 lrpv throat/seat depth issues

i have 12 lrpv 6br 12 twist. the heaviest bullet it wil stabilize is 80g. this shoots best when seated at the lands and leaves bout .100" of bullet/case contact. the 64g berger column bullets shoot bout .200" better and that is big. problem is there is only .050" of bullet in the case and this is just not enough.
does anyone have any insight as to why savage chose such long throat with slow twist. seems counter intuitive to me
im sure the 14 twist barrels can only shoot the <70g bullets so that even compounds the problem.

or why was the longer throat 6mmbr norma chosen over the .240" shorter throat 6mmbr remington?
anyone else having these issues or does everyone just seat where ever and shoot?
or am i just over thinking the problem?

    thanks 1953greg

It's because the chamber is a spec 6BR Norma chamber. 6 BR Norma factory ammo is loaded with 107 gr bullets. They won't put a shorter freebore in a chamber than what factory ammo needs. Have you ever seen any factory 6 BR loaded with 70 gr bullets?

Don't lose any sleep, many of the long throated chambers still shoot quite well with a good amount of "jump". Seat them back where you feel they have enough support and try it.

Savage website lists that gun with an 8 twist barrel. Are you sure you have a 12?

it is left port and 12 twist......fer sure....its 4 yrs old
it does shoot good but shoots better at the lands
it appears that i am sol for new 6br 12 twist
    nope, never seen factory 70g
and if the chambers were designed for 107g, savage sure missed the mark with 12 twist
i guess thats why today only 8 twist is offered in 6br

    thanks greg
