Moose with Savage .308 Model 16

I bought a stainless .308 barrel with the Savage muzzle brake off the classifieds here, about 5 or 6 years ago, and finally put it on my Model 16 receiver. I camo'd the stainless barrel with camo tape. Took it to Quebec Moose hunting for the rifle season and killed a 51 1/2" Bull that the Butcher estimated to be 1200 pounds live weight.

The Bull was called in to 20 yards and took a Barnes 168 Gr. VorTec BT bullet just left of the breastbone. It spun around and sprinted 20 yards and tripped (or fell) over a fallen tree... My first Moose - soon to reside on my wall. i think it may be a while before I put the 300 Savage barrel back on the rifle. Happy, Happy, Happy!

Absolutely fabulous, and friends tell me they cook up real good! That barrel camo tape really makes it hard to see! I'm a fan. Bullwinkle down.

The right bullet in the right spot is all you need. Yumm!

Very nice job on the moose. And yes the meat is the very best of all the antlered game.
But don't be short selling the old 300 Sav. on those type shots either lol.

Man that's just fine! You are going to be on a cloud for a while
I hope Saturday by dark I'm on that cloud myself. That's one heck of a hunt buddy. Its a good thing you had help. I remember my first bull elk at the sheer size difference from deer. I was truthfully overwhelmed. That's when I understood what the term "Big Game" was. Lol. enjoy the walk brother.
