    Axis 6.5 Creedmoor Question

I have been craving a 6.5 and have found a sale on the left hand Axis in Creedmoor. Does anyone have an Axis in Creedmoor and if so, how does it shoot? Does the skinny shorter barrel shoot tight groups? I am not interested in long range target shooting. I am looking for a deer rifle with lighter recoil than my .30-06 and good penetration on deer sized game.

    Thanks in advance

I have one. I haven't run it through the wringer, but indications are that it shoots as well or better than every other nearly-factory Axis I've shot. Part of that may be the availability of affordable, quality match ammo for 6.5 Creedmoor compared to .243 Winchester and 7mm-08.

Built mine a few weeks ago and ordered an accuracy barrel from E.A. Brown, came with barrel, wrench and bore paste. I have a tack driving Grendel 24 inch at and the Creedmoor is scary accurate. After break in 4 round group under a dime at 100 meters off a bench.

Well, I waited too long and they are sold out. I will keep an eye out for one down the road. It's not like I need a deer rifle this season. I just sighted in four of them this week. One more trip to the range and the rest will be ready. The only reason they didn't get sighted/confirmed with the rest is that I was out of H4350. Luckily I found a can Wednesday and can now load for the rest.

Does anybody know what the twist rate is for the Creedmoor in the Axis 2 Hardwood? I emailed savage but I haven't heard back. I fondled 1 @ Academy and it felt really nice. I also measured the magazine inner length and it's right at 3 inches. If it's an 8 twist, I'm going to order it. Was trying to hold out for the Kryptek HB Axis 2 in 6.5CM but the Hardwood really felt nice. Thanks

Savage has never chambered anything in 6.5 caliber in other than an 8" twist.
