    muzzle brake.

I normally just thread my barrels and put a vias muzzle brake on, but I was in a hurry and picked up my second clamp on muzzle brake from witt machine. I have one on my mosin nagant. our 12 year old shoots it all the time now because it has a little less recoil that my heavy barreled ar-15 and those 203 grainers hit hard!!

it works great. all we shoot is 203 grain brown bear soft points out of it and it will group them between 1/2 - 3/4 inch at 100 yards. I was wanting to put a brake on my .300 win mag. deer season is getting close and I didn't want to pull the barrel, thread it and so on so I picked up another clamp on brake. I measured the muzzle on my rifle at .813 and a inch and a half back at .829. sent them the measurements and paid for it.

my muzzle brake arrived yesterday while I was in Chattanooga for work. I got home a little after 6:00 am this morning and installed it. man do they freaking work!! my .300 win mag recoils about like my .22-250 does now!! I have put 20 rounds down it testing for groups with my 220 grain load it shot great before. it doesn't need any load tuning and was hitting 2 inches high at 100 yards after the install. no left or right just high. I took 2 m.o.a. away from it and settled back into my prone position and started shooting three 5 shot groups. my smallest was in the .1's still and my largest was in the low .2's, so I know the rifle still shoots with a clamp on brake on it.

I still like the thread on brakes like vias and others, but I honestly believe this brake took more recoil out of my rifle than some of the thread on brakes I have used.

it isn't as clean and stream lined as thread on brakes, but it does seem to work better than the biggest part of the thread on brakes that when turned to match the barrel give a cleaner look.

we have put around 800 rounds down the pipe on the nagant and the brake is still right there, so I am not one bit worried about it coming off.

I've got a Witt brake on my 10 .308, and it works fantastic... feels like you're shooting a 223. Like OP said, it's not the cleanest looking thing, but gets the job done very well, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than getting a barrel threaded.

like I said I have two of them and several threaded ones. these really seem to do a better job to me and the kids. they aren't a pleasing to the eyes at all, but they sure are to the shoulder. that is what counts for me.

at the moment I am up loading a 5 minute video of me and joseph shooting my .300 win mag 200 yards with hand rolled 220 grain hornady ELDX bullets over 75.5 grains of H1000. I have ran into the problem that if you do not open the bolt all the way it won't reset right. I mean you have to come all the way back on the bolt beore it will fully reset the firing pin.

I can't even up load pictures off my computer now. I have to down load them to photobucket. talk about slow down load to youtube and photobucket at the same danged time!!! I tried going advanced. no dice on a brand new dell computer!!! makes me want to pull my hair out!!

I will post up a youtube link after 12 hours of down loading on cable internet!

well the old battle axe has pitched a ***** now. I will later on posting the videos and pictures to make her happy. why on why couldn't being gay be more like friends who enjoy the same thing? I mean really!! women lie and say they like football and shooting!!!! when the truth comes out they hate you and everything you believe in!! I have 15 more years if I am lucky before I can tell this woman to hit the high way!!! lord knows I have treated her 12 year old son as my own!! we have a 5 year old together. I unlike most was smart enough to not MARRY her!! I will pay the $500 a month child support that all local judges have given to railroaders. if she pushes it I will sale my off grid home and move into my grand parents place my father, uncle and 1st cousin have been begging me to move into. right off the bat I have a 600 yard range my grandfather and grandmother used often!!! I would have to build benches and a covered roof because they shot off sand bags, but at my pay rate I can do that if I don't have a monthly house payment. the next thing is I would move my solar panels, battery bank, wind turbines and a few other off grid items I know I would need.

the worse part would be not seeing my daughter every day and not teaching her to shoot every day like we do now.

    just how do you win?

tell me again why I am staying here with a loud mouth woman who doesn't shoot anything over .22lr at 50 yards when she has a 600 yard range?

I've been looking at these. I just have a hard time with the clamp on application. My 300 needs a Brake !

    I was hesitant at first.
    Lots of good reviews.
They work well and if you give them good measurements they fit well.
    Recoil is noticeably reduced

Question , If / when you remove the clamp on ones , does it mark or scar the barrel in any way ??

Mine hasn't... had it off a couple of times. The key is to give him very good measurements. Mine fit like a glove.

Thank you, on the Witt machine home page they show a barrel used to illustrate where to take the measurements at. That barrel shows at least 50 % of the blueing worn off, so I was just wondering
