    Savage action vs 300 Dakota

I have a savage 110 action that was originally chambered in 30-06. I want another caliber, something a little different such as the 270 Allen Express or 270 Allen magnum. the express cartridge is based on the 300 Dakota case neck down to 270 and Allen mag is based on 300 RUM necked down to 270.

Will the savage action work for these rounds?

    270 Allen Xpress
300 Dakota parent case, necked to 270 and fireformed to Allen Magnum shoulder and body configuration.
130 gr. (3500 fps in 30”) to 169.5 gr. ULD RBBT at 3200 fps in 30” barrel
Designed for medium size big game out to ½ mile range.
Appropriate powders: H-1000, Rl-25, Retumbo, Ramshot Magnum

    270 Allen Magnum
300 Rem Ultra Magnum parent case, necked to 270 and fireformed to min body taper and sharper shoulder angle.
130 gr.(3800 fps) up to 169.5 gr ULD RBBT(.740 bc) 3300 fps in 27” barrel length, 3400 fps in 30” barrel length
Designed for game up to 500 lbs at long range, deer and pronghorn out to any range a shooter can place the bullet in the vital zone of his target.
    Appropriate powders: H-870, H-US869, AA8700 and WC872

or you could make life a whole lot simpler and cheaper and just get a 25-06 AI barrel for your old 06

Should. Ask Kirby what the chamber pressures are at max loads.

I don't have any experience with those calibers but surely the pressure is no more than what a RUM would be.

The diameter of the case at the web and the surface area in contact with the bolt face are the critical factors.

If that Dakota case isn't any larger in diameter than the RUM then you should be fine as long as the pressures are not greater than the RUM

Re: Savage action vs 300 Dakota

    Thanks guys for the info.
I gave sharp shooter supply a call and they said that the 300 RUM will work in the standard savage action. When you look at the figures ballistically the Dakota based round is actually behind in some cases than the RUM based round. I think the 270 allen magnum would be a better choice and when I get tired of replacing barrels I can just switch to the 300 RUM. Any thoughts/comments.
