    150 grain GMX and Varget

I've got a Savage 10FP (1:10") that has been cut and threaded to 16.1", and lives in a Choate Ultimate Varmint stock with a 34oz 308 can on it. With 168 grain FGMM, it'll put 5 inside a 3/4" circle at 100 yards, all day long. Fine.

I came across a hell of a deal on Hornady's 150 grain GMX pills during Widener's clearance sale- $.18/ per. I've got a lot of Varget. Using Hornady's L-N-L OAL tool and this bullet, I get an OAL of 2.865 to the lands (2.250 ogive with the L-N-L comparator). I've tried loads that range from 2.735 and 44.5 Varget (Hornady book) to 2.832 and 45.5 Varget and my best 5 shot group has been 1.25" and worst has been 2.25". If that is all I can get out of this bullet, I will relegate it to an AR10 SBR night time hog gun- 2MOA at night timealways under 200Y is fine for it.

ANyone have any success in a 1:10 with Varget and the GMX?

When shooting solids, .050" off the lands is the "closest" I get. You may try backing off a bit more.

I shoot them at max or near max loads. They seem to like to be pushed hard.

For 30cal, the heaviest I go with solids is 130grn. Good Luck :-)

Sometimes changing primers can make the difference. If you've been using fed210 or cc200/br2 then try Winchester or Rem primers, or the other way around.

The 10" twist makes no difference in this case.

I shoot 130 TTSX in one of my hunting 300winmags 10"twists. I jump them 0.220" !! and that's the most accurate load in that rifle.

Seat them deep. And push them fast! Those are pretty good shooting bullets that's kinda heavy for me I like the light mono bullets screaming to get the most out of them. The GMX has been pretty accurate for me. But I don't go that heavy actually I shoot 110 barnes and GMX out of 308 and Its one of the baddest deer and pig rounds I've found in 308 full penetration And lots of shock. I don't know if a 08 can push a 150 fast enough to get the goodies out of it. I've seen best results at 3200fps MV and above.

Also keep in mind that most monolithic bullets require 22-2200 fps to open reliably, so keep that in mind once you get the load worked out. I use ballistics software to tell me the range it drops below that, and that helps me determine my max range.
