    Savage A17 HMR

Looking at the new Savage A17 HMR with the thumb hole stock. I have waited a year since their initial release hoping Savage has worked any bugs out. Have read some on-line comments that the fiberglass stock is not great. I believe the thumb hole stock is the Boyd's stock so that should improve accuracy. Checking to see if anybody has one? or has had the chance to shoot one? If so what do you think of the rifle? Thanks for the help.

I would like it better if they put a left-hand stock on it.

I looked at that one a few months ago and really liked it, but given the cost of .17 hmr ammo I went with the .22 version instead. However down the road a bit I'm going to either get the .17 or more probably the .223 version, I really love that stock.

I have one, with the heavier, fluted barrel. I bedded the action and did a little trigger work (various youtube videos) and now get pretty good accuracy from the 17grain CCI varmint tip and the Hornady v max.

I,have the gen 1 A17...going to get the new heavy barrel one soon as i can find one. Could any one tell the difference in models-47006 and 47008....only thing i see is one berrel is matted black on 06 and 08 is matted gray and black...but all gray laminate stocks models are heavy barrel correct? Thumb hole model not an option cuase i am right minded!

I have the Boyds thumbhole stock on my .17 WSM. The first one they sent was not usable but I just got the replacement a couple of days ago, and the action is mounted. I shot it this AM, and in the words of my gunsmith after he saw the targets "shes a shooter".

And with a little trigger work, they shoot even better. The trigger in these things isn't particularly smooth to say the least and a little light sanding and polishing does wonders to improve how well you can shoot these things.
