116 Throat leader issue

New to this forum, long time 110 shooter. Reloaded for the 110, but gave it to my son so he could hunt, bought a Rem 700, reloaded for that for 2 years, didn't like it so traded it in for a 116. Shot Rem core lokt 165 gr to get it on paper. Put in some of my reload Nosler Patition165 and couldn't close the bolt, bullet jammed in barrel. Overall case length is 3.320 - 3.325, SAAMI max is supposed to be 3.340 Didn't have this problem with either other guns. Is there a possible manufacturer problem here?

No...it's a reloader problem. Seat the bullets to fit the barrel.

You are using 165grn NP, So You must have a 30/06. Nosler Load Data list that bullet COAL at 3.320". If that chambers, it is within SAMMI specs. You may have a bit of a short throat, but that could be an advantage as the throat wears. Since You reload, find the chamber COAL with the bullit You are loading, and work from there, as suggested by "ss".

Since the factory Remington's chambered, it is further evidence the chamber meets SAMMI.

FW - Thanks for the feedback. Yes its a 30.06. I was following Nosler load data for the OACL of 3.320, yet had the stuck bullets. So I guess from now on don't trust the load data for case length, I thought that bit about 3.340 SAAMI max OACL in the data meant something, but aparent not. Or do I not understand what it means? In either case I'll seat the bullets according to the barrels dimensions. Learn something new and keep on truckin. Thanks again for your input.

Saami max is more for feeding into the chamber. Load data coal is best viewed as a reference for what they used to make their data.

Load for what your barrel likes. Be cautious about jamming bullets into the rifling, it will raise pressures. Some bullets like to jump a gap. Some like to be close to the rifling. Some like a very slight jam, I never exceed .008" jam.

If your coal is shorter than what is listed in the book data, your max load is probably going to be at less powder, less velocity, same or higher pressure.
