    First .308 Reloads

These are my first reloads. I'm using Nosler 165gr ballistic tips with 42.2gr CFE223 through a Savage Axis 308 HB.
These were only fired from 30 yards but I think the load looks like it may work.
I have some other loads to test and I still need to chrono the rounds to check velocities.

I just chrono'd these rounds at around 2550fps with my Caldwell chrono at 10 feet from the muzzle. Where I hunt is pretty thick so my shots are usually under 50 yards so I want to keep the velocity lower using ballistic tip rounds.
Does anyone think I'll have a problem with these rounds?

As long as you keep them under 100 yards they should be ok. The 30 yard group tells you nothing other than the bullet made it that far. Until you can get at least a 100 yard group you have no ideal what will happen out there at distance but since it is hunting in thick stuff where shots are 100 yards or less you should be ok.

Yeah I plan on getting out to atleast 100 yards but 30 is as far as I can shoot at home. I did shoot some other reloads with everything the same but 43gr and the group opened up to about an inch at 30 yards.

You group at 100 is going to be 3x that group.

As noted, not an issue if short range hunting.

So about 2.25" at 100 yards. If I can do that I'd be happy for just deer hunting rounds. I know that's not as good as I can get out of the rifle but I've been busy and haven't had time to work up an accuracy load yet.
Bow season starts here in about 9 days so I'll not be able to do any kind of load working so I'll use that this year and work a better load after the season.
I have only shot 1 deer at more than about 50 yards and that was on a wide open field. I don't hunt that area anymore so I'm stuck with heavy brush areas now so 50 yards is a pretty long shot in my area.

That's handgun range for me. 100 yards is too.

Lol. I'm not a very good shot since I don't get to practice too often. I'm even worse with a handgun but I'm getting better.
