It's nice to find a place of fellow savage shooters. I live in N.W. Lower Michigan. I inherited a savage mod.99D .300 sav. from my father, from his father. Grandma bought the rifle for her husband new for a Christmas present for $ 17.42 in 1924. My dad showed me the receipt which was handed down along with the rifle. It will shoot factory loads 1 1/2" groups at 100yds. I have been reloading it and will now shoot 3/4" groups. I'm ticked pink with the groups and dad is amazed. He was brought up if you could hit a paper plate at 100yds, it was good enough. Dad had a Williams side-mount installed, he does not remember when, other than that, It is all factory.
