Savage 12 FV 223. Cabelas gun. What factory ammo ?

I bought the savage 12FV 223 cabelas gun couple months ago. I have not shot it yet. Gun at duracoater. Has T36 power weaver scope on it. ONLY going to use his gun for long range shooting 400 to 600 yard target and prairie dog shooting. I have axis gun for coyotes. Anyway gun is 1/9 twist. I am thinking 64 through 69 grain ammo maybe more ? I dont reload and never will. Any feed back on what factory ammo I should buy and gr bullet ? Going to try to only buy maybe 3 or 4 boxes of factory ammo and hope to find one that shoots best groups. Any feed back what has been shooting good for u guys that bought this gun before I buy 1000 rounds of it ? My axis really likes 52 bthp black hills. But like I say need feed back on heavier bullet. This weekend Cabelas has a sale on Australian outback ammo in 69 grain Sierra Match Kings. Should shoot very good out of your 9 twist. Also try American Eagle 50 grain tipped varmint (p/n AE223GTV) Always shoots very tight in both my 12's .

With the 1:9 I would not go heavier than 69 gr.

It should shoot well with anything from 55 gr through 69 gr but every barrel is different, it may like something a little lighter or it may like something a little heavier.

Cabelas is offering 10% discount and free shipping through today, for orders over $90. I just ordered 5 boxes of the Outback in 69 gr. and a chronograph.

The AE223GTV I mentioned above is a 3350 FPS load, and shoots quite well at 500 yds. on days with less wind to buffet the little 50 grain pill. It can be had for under $9.00 a box if you look around. I think today, at Cabelas it's about $10.80 with the discount, less if you account for the free shipping.

You might try the Hornaday 75 gr, BTHP match. It might stabilize in your 9 twist depending upon altitude and temps you shoot at. If the Match won't stabilize, the Superformance label may. It's a bit faster.

Otherwise, the 69 grain loads are about the heaviest you can expect to shoot well out of your 9 twist, but actual twist rates vary a bit due to manufacturing variances, so you never know until you try. You might actually have an 8 3/4 twist, which would stabilize heavier bullets.

My 9 twist handled the 73 grain Bergers well, but that is with hand loading. It would not shoot the 75's at all.
