    Savage Model 219 22cal LR

I inherited this gun and I am trying to put a date with it. There is no serial numbers but on the underside of the barrel there are some letters and symbols stamped into the barrel. The markings are as follows: the letter A, an upright rectangle, an arrrow pointing toward a square. The square could be the roman numeral II but its hard to tell. Does this mean anything about this gun? I would appreciate any help on this matter.

    A 219 in 22 LR?

I've heard of them in 22 smooth bore from the old Utica days but have never even laid eyes on one. I know of one collector who owns two of them and thats it, period.

You've got one rare gun there.

The symbols are simply inspectors marks and assembly marks, Utica guns can't be dated to a year, all we know is that they were made before 1945.
