I've never been a fan of Savage's comb height on their factory stocks, and even Boyds leaves me a little too low on all but the lowest scopes. The simplest, permanent solution I could find to fix this is a Karsten Kydex cheek rest. There are other options out there like taping stuff to stuff or strapping this to that, many of which are cheaper and easier to install, but prior experience made me wart of those approaches. And trust me, I looked hard at them; "Cheap" and "Easy" are my middle names (I suspect my confirmation wasn't in a real Catholic church).

Being cheap, I decided $60 was too much and resolved to make my own cheek rest. The Karsten design looked so simple that it seemed immediately accessible to me. Plus, I had already accumulated some Kydex from my stint as a ham-fisted knife maker. I went about designing and bending.

Anyway, here's a video of my process: LINK
