Info to help ID a model 99?

New here--trying to help a widow sell a gun and figured this might be a good place to start. I'd be happy to take it myself but I am certain it's worth more than I can afford. We need to establish value.

It's a model 99 in 250-3000 with the thin schnabel forend. Serial # 566XXX. We think mid 50's but not certain.

Any links to serial xx's by date, and info on identifying models by date?

I need to see the gun to get more specs but as I recall it was in good but used condition, with some case coloring left and some type of peep site--just can't remember if it was flip up tang or receiver mount. I know it had a peep site as she'd asked me to help her sight it in for deer hunting, and my first shot was an inch high dead center, and the next one was maybe 1/2" from that. I don't shoot that well with leaf sights... :)

    Any help appreciated!

    1950 Model 99EG.

The only available models in that serial number range are the 99EG and the 99R and the EG was the one with the thinner forestock like you described.

    Hope this helps.

Whoops, sorry but the serial # is actually 638,239.

I had found some info stating serial # 566,000 began 1950 and app. 30,000 guns were made each year after that, putting the age somewhere in the 1953 range.

Does that work for the dates that you know and for model EG? The other EG's I have seen do look identical, but I'll have her take a closer look. Thanks!

    It's still an EG.

The 1950's started somewhere in the late 530.000's but you can't go by 30,000 a year.

Your gun was made in 1952.

    Probably $350-$400 depending on condition.

I'll take two, if you find them at that price. They are selling for $650-750 around me, when they show up in 250-3000
