7SAUM freebore

trying to decide on a freebore on a 7saum. i have a ton of 162gr amaxs, so i will be running those.

should i go with a .090freebore or longer...... like a .188freebore? (trying to keep 162s at mag length, without stuffing them deep into the case)

shilen and cbi both have .090 on their prefits. anyone ever used an amax in either of those barrels? how deep was the bullet seated and what was the coal?

My 7SAUM must have a freebore of about a yard lol. My COAL with 175 ELD-x is 3.10 and its a rocket ship. Ran 3150 with .5 under max, I throttled it back to 1.5 under and set the headspace a little longer and its running 3050 not broke in yet. Shot 15 into .686, pull 2 flyers and 15 shots in the low .3s. Mine is a Mcgowen and I really had no plan on building it, the barrel was a deal....and next thing ya know.

I had just got around to ordering mine last week. Went with a bartlein 1:8.7twist .188 freebore.
Those 175s should be a laser even at 3050! I will be trying those in mine. I've got over 1k of the 162amax, so those will be what I mostly shoot.
What is your barrel length?

27". I have never built a short mag. I'm more of an Ultra kinda guy. The velocity on this thing has floored me. Never had a rig outrun the book. Of course usually I am running 90+ gr of powder and 30" tubes so this has been a very pleasant surprise. I used the long COAL to gain powder space and Mcgowen evidently gave it a lot more freebore than I am used to. The bullets are just under the neck juncture.

the two I have seen are (I think) 27" bartlein #5 and a 26" 3b, I am not sure of the freebore. You are on the right track with the amax, he has had pretty good success on animals with them. I think both are short action 700's with wyatts extended box mag but I am not sure.
