Well I got to take out the 12FV 308 today. My 12 FV 223 turned in outstanding groups, so was hoping for the same from the 308.

168gr 43.5 Varget at 2.80" .5 inch 4 shot group.
175gr 43.5 Varget at 2.80" .17 inch 5 shot group
190gr 43.5 Varget at 2.80" .22 inch 5 shot group
168gr 44.0 Varget at 2.80" .90 inch 5 shot group
175gr 44.0 Varget at 2.80" 1.2" inch 5 shot group
190gr 44.0 Varget at 2.80" .75" inch 5 shot group
150gr 44.0 Varget at 2.80" .1.3" inch 5 shot group
Velocities range from 2600's for the 190's to the high 2800 for the 150's
175/43.5 was around 2750.
All the 190's resulted in some sticky bolt lift, compared to the 175/168's but never a stuck bolt (as I have had with my Axis and short Mod10). Just a bit tighter lift, and a very slight bit of primer flattening.
I think I found my regular load though in the 175!!!

You are a pretty good bit on the high side of the Varget load for the 190 drop down tp 40 and work up. Also try 4064 41-42 grains depending on your brass.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
You are pretty close on your 175/varget load. What brass and how close to the lands will play a part. I was running 43.9 with the 175s, lapua brass, and loaded to like 2.910, which was only .010 off the lands. Similar group results as you:

Yep I fully acknowledge I am running at the high edge of the loadings.
I am running LC LR 10 brass at 2.008" with a Giraud tri trimmer, works great. The 190 grain load came from Hodgson's and Sierra, and was def at the top end, doubt I'll be shooting that heavy often, as I bought the 190's for my 300 Win Mag, but hey they work.
44.1gr over a 168SMK has been my go to loading for the last several years in other 308's, but recently I came into 1000 175 SMK, and 1000 190SMK and 1000 180 BT, that I couldn't pass up the deal on.
SO today I loaded up some 180 BT, that have NOT impressed in other 308's or my 300 Winmag, but this Sav shot them into .25" Some 178 AMax that have in the past only been OK that shot into .20" and some 168 Silver tips at .45"
I certainly wasn't expecting the results I got as I had loaded 43.0, 43.3, and 43.5 in all three of those bullets, last night and the case dropped outta my hands and spilled all over the floor complete mix of rounds.
So everything I shot today was mixed powder weights of 43-43.5grn and they still shot under Half MOA at 100yds.
I repeated my 175gr SMK 43.5 grn load today, different batch of LCLR cases, same powder load, and same results! Very happy with that.
