    250-06?

So....Ive got the 250 itch lately. Ive been considering AI or the basic cartridge. I do not reload yet so this is merely for educational purposes. Has anyone tried necking down a .270 case to recieve a .250? In my mind it sounds like fun. Or maybe an AI version would be better? Who knows? Not me! Maybe a waste of powder for the performance and maybe even a barrel burner, but I am just curious. Lemme know what you think!

Yes, this is a great idea.

Wonder if I can rechamber one of my 25-06 to a 250/270 ?

Would I have to set back the barrel ?

I am not sure about the barrel, but you will need a different bolt head ;D

Actually, the longer neck of a .270 case makes alot of sense.

Since you are nearly a century late on the 25-06, you might take a look at the 250 AI. Several of us on this site are playing with them and are getting 25-06 performance out of a short action round using 20% less powder. And besides that, they are just flat fun to play with.

My nephew has a 25-284 we are just starting to play with it. So far, I am not overly impressed. It seems to be very inefficiant, but only time will tell.

I would think a good start would be to look at some 25 WSM loads.
Somebody here has one I think.

25-06 AI is the next thing to the 257 weatherby.
25-06 AI will get 3920 fps with a 87 grain ballistic tip only 60 fps slower
than the 257 and 10 grains less powder.
Barrel burner ?????? mine lasted only 25 years.

as for the question of setting the barrel back for the 270 case all you need to do is cut the throat deeper.
    rechamber is not needed.
