I love the platform and considered buying one for almost a year.
In the end I went with an AR-10, but I still want an M-1A and will buy one if I come across the right rifle for the right price.

I have one also, purchased a loaded M1A and shot very well as is had no markings on the SS barrei so e-mailed Springfield asking what i had got back e-mail that my M1A had a Wilson 1/11 twist barrel.
After some time got an itch and contacted the Colonel and had him have the action trued, rear lugged, and trigger group worked over NOW shoots 168 & 175 SMKHPBT VERY VERY WELL.
I had one also. Good shooter. Got tired of chasing brass. Also very, very heavy.
There is a guy at the range very heavy and hardcore into these with the gloves, heavy jacket, ect his spotting scope is even a bausch and lomb, anyway he has several of them and all shots are documented, and after 10,000 rounds he sends them back to Springfield to have the refurbished.

Not a Springfield M1A but I've ran maybe 5 thousand rounds thru my Federal Ordnance M1A. Has never missed a lick and keeps on ticking. All GI parts. Gone thru about 40 pounds of Accurate Arms 2230C when it was still available. At around $75.00 for a 8 pound jug, it was a deal you couldn't pass up.
Started with a recoil pad and muzzle brake. Figured if I couldn't stand the recoil, I should give up SO, mil spec steel butt plate, pulled the brake and I now shoot peep sites. Banging steel at 100 to 200 yards will sure put a smile on your face. 20 rounders go real fast.
And the best part? It only cost me $250.00 back in the day. Only replaced one bolt and one op rod since I've had it. Swapped stocks back and forth. Other than that, not much done to it. REALLY burns the ammo!!

Hey Mike that's pretty cool, on the same note all of his 308 brass and I mean all, is made from 30-06 brass not one piece had a 308 head stamp..
I didn't even know you could do that.

I've been wanting to get a M1A Squad Scout since they were introduced, but given how things have been going around here the last six months or so I don't see myself having the extra money to buy one anytime soon.

I also have wanted one for the longest time, but could never come up with they almost $3000.00 it takes to acquire one, so I had to make a decision and not a easy one. And that was to sell my 1975 Colt AR15 SP1, I have had it for a long time and never use it, and have come to the conclusion that I am not affluent enough to be a gun collector. It was hard to let her go but in they end I am really enjoying my new rig, and am sure I will for a long time to come.

Nothing but pure firepower!!! Makes an AR feel like a toy. Run a couple hundred rounds thru an M1A and you know you've been shooting a REAL battle rifle. May not be bug hole accurate @ 200 yards but I wouldn't want to be down range when the shooting starts.

My grouping went from over a 1" to under 3/4" and am sure I will get it close to 1/2" with a little trigger time and load development.
