How to remove tight screws on factory scope mount?

Howdy Folks --


I 'm trying to install a DIP, Inc. 25MOA scope rail on my new MK II TR.

The small screws that secure the factory scope mounts to the receiver seem soft and are very tight and difficult to remove. They appear to be a 3/32nd allen-head screw.

Does the factory use some type of adhesive? What's the best way to remove them without stripping? Possibly use heat?

Use a 3/16 round drift punch and smack it on the head. This will shock loose any thread locker. Most of the time after this the screws will come out less than finger tight.

^^^ Fred's (sharpshooter's) advice is sound, in all things Savage related.

Smacking the top of base screw heads to break the thread lock is not going to damage or harm any rifle worth shooting.

Fred, thank you very, very much! Your advice worked perfect. I was even able to remove one that I stripped. It is really remarkable that a gunsmith of your renown gives of your time freely to a public forum. BTW, your "Fred-Sled" for my Savage model 10 works great for F-class. Many Thanks!
