Barrel compatability 110E and Youth 11 Trophy XP

Hi all, new here. Glad I found you guys. It looks as if I will learn loads browsing through these threads. I've been searching and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for but from what I have found so far, it seems like it will work. I have an early 1980s 110E in .243 with the 4.522 action, 22 in barrel, and full size walnut stock. It is a hand me down from my mother and has been my son's hunting rifle for several years. It is now being passed down to my youngest who is 8 and about 60# soaking wet. She has shot it several times but I'm needing to get her something more fitting to her size. I am against cutting down the stock and have not been able to locate a youth sized stock at a decent price for this action so I have been looking at the Youth 11 Trophy Hunter XP. I would prefer a .308 but even in a lite load, recoil would be coparable to factory .243 loads which is really too much for her right now so I've been considering another .243 which I can reduce loads. Then it occurred to me the barrels may be compatible and if so, I could buy the .308 in the youth and swap the barrels leaving me with a youth .243 and full size .308. Is this feasible? I missing anything here? Any issues with the intermediate action? Both calibers are built on the same cartridge so no change on the bolt correct? Thanks in advance. --Drummy

I think it should be a direct swap. Another easy shooting caliber is the 7mm-08.

Yes direct swap. Same headspace gauges etc as well. 308/243/7-08

Thanks all! As far as the 7mm-08, I reload .243 and several 30 calibers now and don't really want to start collecting brass and bullets for another. It would be a great choice otherwise.

Open your loading manual and look at the case drawings...
243, 7-08, 260, 308 are all the same case, no "collecting" needed; just a different sizing die.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

True, hadn't really thought that far into it but then I would have to keep them organized well enough as not to get them swapped up which I am not confident I could do. Lol
