a nasty fast 308 hog and deer load

I'm sure a lot of you guys already know about the Barnes 110 gr TTSX in 308. Well I'm pretty impressed with them in my savage 11. I have been using them the last couple months on depredations for hogs coyote and a few deer on the farms. I'm pushing them to 3450fps with a hot load of H335. They hold under a inch at 150 yards and shoot FLAT! I've shot hogs out to 350 and it works like a big dog. If you want to turn thAt 308 in to a feather light kicker that just will zap hog and deer give them a shot. Now The B.C is not good so you got to really push them fast but it made my 308 shoot like my 25-06. Oh and don't be afraid to break the shoulder I've always gotten two broke shoulders and pass threw to 300 on hogs over 200 pounds. Barnes has impressed me again.

Whoa! That is fast. I could never get better than 3300fps with any accuracy. You must be filling H335 to the top.

He did say HOT load, so might be considered a tad warm for most. I have some 130's I have thought about loading up for deer. According to my ballistics program, (Point Blank) the exterior ballistics are nearly identical to a 270 Win. That's a 130gr TSX in a 308 Win.

Trying to decide between rigging my 223 back to a 308 and using the 130 or using my 243 for deer this season. I KNOW which will be more effective, the 308, but I have never taken a deer with my 243. I took one with that rifle but it was sporting the same 308 barrel I am considering putting on my 223. Toooo many choices with these Savage rifles. :)

243 is fine for deer, select the right bullet for the speed and range expected.

Yep it's to the max 53 gr. This little rifle doesn't shoot them that great unless it's maxed out it's holding tight at 53 gr. And my rifle must have a fast barrel because I needed. Brass and shot up some cheap winchester and they were clocking in 50 fps than the box said.
And they work great on hogs and big one's too. And HandiRifle that 243 is a awesome deer round. Load up some good TTSX or ETips or interbonds and there is not a deer alive it won't make dead. I love the 243. I use one all the time as a matter of fact that's why I tried those 110s in the 308 so it would shoot like my 243. But the 110s in the 308 are pretty dang fast my 243 is hitting 3250 with 80 gr TTSX And keeping them under a 3/4" at 150. I could push faster but the accuracy suffers. And at 3200 that 80 gr TTSX will go from rear to ear on 200 pound deer so I don't see a need for more horse power than that. I kill a lot of deer and hogs. I take more deer in one year than a lot of folks get to harvest in a lifetime and trust me don't buy the hype a 243 is a perfect deer load with the right bullets. 243, 7mm08 and 308 are all great deer and hog rounds. Just keep it mono in the 243 or at least bonded. Because I have lost big deer and hogs using the old style corelocks that's what turned me on to mono bullets. I'm thinking that cutting edge 243 raptor would be a mean little 243 bullet also. Just cost a lot.

That is one fast round. Surprised it doesn't go right through the hogs unless hitting bone.

Give them a shot . but shoot him in the goodys break him down don't shoot it like a arrow or ballistic tip. They bust em up like a much bigger bullet.

Yea I need to get off my but and get some loads worked up. I know that rifle LOVES the Federal 100gr Fusion loads. I might give them a whirl.

I like your loading approach Try some H4198 and and you will see even more velocity, and I would not be surprised if your grouping closed up even more.

I've been using the Barnes 130 tsx in my rem. 600 308 for years. DRT and very accurate.
