Do the blind magazines have a removable floor plate on model 12's

I'm looking at a used model 12 in .223 at a local shop. 26" barrel blued, black plastic stock accu-tgrigger. Looks like a floor plate with two screws in front of the trigger guard that would allow the magazine to be removed. I looked on the Savage Arms site but can't find any info on this system or I'm not looking in the right place. What's the deal with the plate? Price is $450 OTD. Does that sound reasonable?

The two screws in front of the trigger guard are take-down screws. They are what hold the action to the stock. If it has a metal plate on it, I am not familiar with that. Must be from an older model. Current bind mags have what looks like a floor plate molded into the plastic stock. Just there for looks.

I would say that's a bit steep for used. The best deals on Savage right now are two Cabelas exclusive models... 12fv (about $419 if not on sale) and a $100 rebate thru June. Tough to find, though. THe 10T is $600, normally, no current rebate.

Normally, I don't want to pay more than $300 for a used blind mag.

But, hey, it's a toy, right? If you like it and want it NOW, you could have fun with it this weekend, still.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for the information. It must be just the lines molded in and the action screws look like they hold a plate in. I haven't kept up with centerfires the past few years. I'll pass on this one and see what shows up later. I don't mind buying a used Savage because of the ability to change/swap parts. He has a new AXIS in .223 for $299 plus tax which seems cheap enough, but I need to read a bit about them. It looks like a lightweight 110 action though.

Yeah, I would say read up on the Axis. Nice, inexpensive rifle. The action is more different than you said, though. The magazine cannot be loaded from the top, for example. The barrels are interchangeable, just as they are with 10/110 models.

If it loks like this it is a newer model.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
