magazine conversion 223 to 221 FB length

Love the forums, this is my first post...
Has anyone successfully converted a blind, internal, staggered feed magazine from 223 rem. to 221 fireball length? I'm converting from 223 rem. to 20 Vartarg and would like a repeater for PD's. Is this easily done, or would I be better off sending it to a 'Smith?
Is feeding reliable also?

I have a model 16 that I had re-chambered from 223 Rem to 221 FB. I could never get it to feed from the magazine and I haven't heard of anyone else having any success. I went with a single shot follower and that gun has been responsible for the demise of many thousands of Prairie Dogs.
For a repeater I have a LH CZ 527 in 223 Rem. I had it re-barreled to 221 FB and changed the magazine housing/trigger guard to the smaller size. The folks at CZ USA were nice enough to exchange a 221 FB magazine for my 223 one. This is a great little "walking gun" and is every bit as accurate as my Savages.
A right handed shooter can buy a CZ 527 in 221 FB right from the factory.

Dave Muzz did this with a blind mag s/f and a cz mag insert, check his posts with photos. I had success with it using a center feed det/mag savage altered to a cz mag insert. There are some photos somewhere in a post. After fiddling with the savage retro-fit, would take Charlie's advise and get the cz 527.

Thankyou for the advice, gentlemen.

I'm getting a Shilen in 20 Vartarg 24", 1 in 12" twist, 1" @ muzzle for about a 12.5 lb "heavy" gun. I may just convert this to single shot.
I'm trying to get ideas for a second lighweight "truck gun"in this caliber, around 7.5 lbs.
Have shot a 221 fireball for about 6 PD seasons ~7500 rounds later, it still shoots <.5 MOA! I was looking forward to frying that barrel this last trip, but we got skunked-three of us only shot 500 rounds in three days, packed up early! That barrel is probably responsible for 6000 PD kills! When I take family/friends with, I can't get it out of their hands! Though I'm looking forward to the switch to 20 VT!

Here is Dave's post on the blind mag conversion (using a cz .221fb mag insert for a .17fb). He used a centerfeed action as I did but mine is a det/mag.

My photo link is the last of the posts. The photos may have been removed by now? The site has been off line and that may be what's giving me an error trying to call them up.

If you had the 221fb feeding through a savage mag, you shouldn't have any problem with the vt, only a small difference in the shoulder angle/length. Not enough to matter.
