    Northeastern safari rifle.....

Catchy title ehh? Well I have made up my mind on what I plan to do with my 110 30-06 I have laying around. I am currently working on the stock, spent several hours sanding and applied some stain and have now been working linseed oil into it and she is coming along nicely.

I recently caught wind of "durablue" which gives the metal a shiny blue like finish with the toughness of duracoat, that will be ordered this week or next.

I plan on adding a barrel sling stud and attaching either a mueller speed shot 1-4x24 scope which is just a black dot but has the option to be illuminated, or the leupold hog hunter 1-4x20.

I have always wanted a safari rifle but the fact that I never will go to Africa and I would never afford one has led me here. I have the vision in my head I just have to apply it!!

Oh also I'm just going to launch big gnarly 220gr RN bullets out of it!

    Why not right?

    That stock looks great!

I do not have much experience with low magnification scopes, but have always been a fan of a 3-9x or a 4-14x variable just in case. Leupold vx-iii's have ridden many of my hunting rifles and I have never, until lately, found them lacking.

I live out west and while I have taken shots inside of 60 yards, most are 100-300 on big game. As I have increased my abilities I have come to feel handicapped if shooting a scope without target style turrets which the vx-iii's don't usually have. that's my problem and doesn't sound like an issue for your type of hunting.

With those heavy round nose bullets he wont be needing target knobs anyway. If he ever wants them Leupold will put them on.
But id recommend rethinking the round nosed bullets. Even with a 180 gr r n in an 06 you might be shocked by the trajectory.
It will be like throwing a brick.

Far shot in my woods is 100 yards, realistically most shots are under 50
