    6mmbr deer bullet

I almost have my 6mmbr mcgowan project finished. I have decided to deer hunt with it this fall. I need suggestions on bullet weight and brand to go with. I will be shooting 300 yards max most probably 100 yards.
We hunt on deer plots in shooting houses down here in louisiana.
    Thanks

    Barnes is very good...

    Any of the Berger VLDs.

Remington 100grners if you want to go on the cheap.

Where are you at in Louisiana? I'm in the Pineville area.

Thanks for the help. My barrel is 1:8 twist. I ordered some of the 80 barnes to see how they shoot. I have some 107smk's but probably do better with hunting bullet.
I live in the franklinton area.

You can drive 100 gr bullet to 2900-3000 fps with a 6BR will no problems. That meets or exceeds a 243 performance. I have killer more than 20 whitetails at a 100 gr Nosler partition bullet in my 6mm Rem. I got a 1000 of these 25 years ago and still am using them. I don't know if it is the same partition bullet today, but they have yet to fail me. Nothing wrong with a plain Remington Core-lot bullet either. I shot several deer with factory 6mm Rem ammo that has that bullet.

Luck in your choice. I am putting together a 6BR for my 10 yr old to hunt with. tiny

I have a friend that has only shot 6mm and 243 all of his life and killed a bunch of deer. I have always shot a 270 but I have been shooting a 204 all summer and have gotten use to the low recoil and being able to shoot alot. I shot my 270 the other day and it kicked so bad it made my sinus hurt. I said heck with this Iam going to shoot my 6mmbr when I get finished. I have never missed with my 270 and may still use it this year but looking forward to having a gun I can shoot abunch.
Also wondering if anyone tried hornady bullets the 95gr amax i believe. Probably only bad bullet is one that hits ground instead of deer.

The Honady 105 Amax or the 95 partitions work great at those ranges.

    The Barnes X bullets are a bang-flop.

I have used a Rem 6mm since the 60's for deer. have shot over 100 whitetails with the 6mm, & never had any problems.

using my Ruger #1, in the Rem 6mm, with the Barnes 85 XLC, & 85 gr. TSX, have shot over 75 deer. these are whitetails in VA. they are bang/flop.

my son uses the Rem 100 gr. & has killed a few too.

I personally don't see a need for any thing larger, ( I have a few 06's) . on Va. whitetails, you can only kill them so "dead".

Pineville "area"? Where good man? I grew up in the Woodworth "area" (but live way up north in NC now).

I have had good luck with Hornady 100 gr flat base SP. Any kind of 95-100 grain game bullet should work fine. Just shoot what your rifle likes.

Woodworth ehhh? What a little speed trap! ;D ::)

used to do a lot of bass fishing at nite at Indian Creek.....back when the stripers were still in the lake.

How long you been gone? They got a 4 lane with a turning lane going through there now.

Know where Libuse is? ::) How bout Deville?....a little further out than I live.

Yep - I know where Deville is. Moved to Baton Rouge in 1987, then WAY up north to NC in 1996. I still get back to see my folks though.

And yes - always has been a speed trap. I was stopped in the 25MPH zone when I was in high school. I told the cop I couldn't have been going more than 27. He said "look at that sign son - does it say Speed Limit 27?"
