short caliber advantage in axis ?

other than 223 bolt face whats the advantage of the short action magazine and trigger in an axis? wont the long action mag and trigger axis shoot short action calibers as well ? MY question is really , if i plan on having a switch barrel gun is the long action preferable as opposed to short . i am thinking on buying a stock for my axis and i am realizing long action stock has no real limits like short and the size of the action is the same as well as weight . am i missing something . wont my 308 feed the same from the long action .

    thanks

Only downside, if you already have a short action axis, you will have to track down a long action magazine for the LA stock. I run long action axis for a 7mm-08 and it works great!

I have had problems running shorter rounds in longer actions that manifest themselves as "nose diving". When running the bolt slowly it isn't a problem, but fast and rough returns to battery would send the point of the bullets into the bottom of the barrel face.
