When I purchased the FV-SR it was with the intent of making a well rounded bench shooter, from precision paper punching to plinking and long range shooting. Here's how I did it.

Of course a Boyd's stock and Harris bipod were on the list, but what about an optic and base?

Optic - After doing a lot of research on the Net I came upon a scope reviewed at Snipershide. It was called SWFA SS. What caught my eye is the amount of adjustment, over 100moa (mine has 107). Now that's something quite handy going from 25 to 400yds with a .22LR. It was fixed magnification, perfect for a bench gun. The mildot reticle will work (in this case at 16x) rather than typically having to dial it down to 10x with a variable magnification scope. And who uses the lower power settings with an adjustable magnification scope on a .22 bench rifle anyway, right? 42MM objective which I prefer to the coffee can size. Instead of having a side focus or adjustable objective, it has a rear focus as well as a reticle focus. The finger adjustable turrets are large with big markings which is nice for old eyes like mine. Box tests proved worthy, and the guys who had the SWFA optics for a while said the mechanisms were reliable which would be important as much as I would be cranking on them going from short to long distances. It came with an unneeded but cool looking 3 inch sunshade. The guys using SWFA optics were mostly building .308s and other long range shooters. It was a temporary optic until they could fund a Nightforce or other high-end optic. Everyone seemed surprisingly pleased. Rated for up to 50bmg... I figured it would hold up to a .22 LOL! For $300, why not.... Pressed the buy button.

Base- EGW sells a 20moa base but I wanted more. After an exhaustive search I found nothing. What the heck, I'll call EGW to see what they can tell me. The guys at EGW were super nice. I could send my base to them and they'd mill it to whatever I want for $20 or I can order a base from them. Perfect! They milled mine to 40moa.

Rings- Really no big deal, but I had been interested in rings sold by TPS. They have a system where you tighten one side down just enough that iit allows you to still move the scope for eye relief and center, then tighten the other side and the scope stays in place. I figured I'd give it a try. Ordered a set of TPS-SL (super low) 30mm. They worked as advertised.

Of course I put a suppressor on it... not much fun shooting at steel if ya got foam plugs shoved in your head and can't hear the delayed ding 300yds away.... FUN.

Very nice! I'm look to build a trainer rifle in this format. Only thing I'll probably change is going with a PA scope on mine!

I've got two of their MicroDots and a compact 4x. Had them for years with no complaints. I like doing business with Primary Arms. Marshall is an outstanding guy. I had the opportunity to chat with him on the phone before his operation got as big as it is today. His people still provide the same 1st class service today as they did years ago.

Seems unnecessary for a .22lr but you can switch it between platforms if you want so not a bad investment. I like the rear adjustment.

It was purpose built to do the shooing as described. So no, nothing will be switched.

What scope would you recommend to serve the above described shooting-- 25yd to 400yd with SV ammo, for only $300?
With over 100MOA of elevation adjustment it's near adjustment limit on both ends including using the reticle for holdover. What other options are there?
