From what I understand in your description, the cut out should go on the same side as your ejection port.

I bought a scope rail from Weaver designed for the Savage Axis (#48347). As best I can tell there is no difference between the front and the rear of this piece, and the screw holes line up just fine either way. However, after installation I noticed that there is a small difference on the underside of the the rail. The rounded underside contour fits the receiver just fine, but one side has a scalloped cut out along the leading edge, while the other side does not have that. It doesn't seem to impact the installation, but I am wondering what the difference is all about. Is there a correct way to install that rail (left vs right) or not?

cut out on the same side as your eject. I think I installed this one. My issue was the scope mounts came loose. so looking into a 1911 style over the weaver brand
Is it the long one that hangs over the barrel nut?
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
