It seems the Ruger Precision Rifle was designed for PRS matches. Does it work any better?

Might work but guess you are in the same league as a Savage

I am pretty sure that my Savage LRP outshoots an RPR easily - both out of the box

yes its a good platform to start with but from what ive read ruger is coming out with an enhanced version...im not sure of all the details...theres a 50+ page thread on cal guns and an even bigger thread on snipers hide i believe...i have read of a few issues with them but im not sure where it was...theres a few guys shooting them in our matches and they do pretty well with them.

I don't doubt that the Savage would be more accurate. My question is in the direct application of a PRS match, would it work better than a Savage.

Before I drop $1200, I would like to see if anyone has any experience first.

King remember in Production division you can't make any changes to the rifle so you can't add a muzzle brake or a DBM and still shoot production. Rule 2.3.1 here http://www.precisionrifleseries.com/prs_rules.pdf

No but just don't want you to buy a Savage and spend a bunch of money on it and then find out you can't shoot it in Production. If you plan on shooting Production then I would find a factory rifle with a factory DBM and something in a 6.5 or 6mm. You can shot a .308 if you wanted but the other two would work out better for your standings being ballistically superior.

The only Savage - that I know if that has the BDM and muzzle thread - is the 10FCP-SR in 308 but has stock no muzzle

But than we are stuck with the 308 round . . .

I read on another forum if the threading is there you can attach a muzzle break

But waiting on a reply back from PRS

Well there was a post in a similar thread on snipers hide but unless you get it in writing then I would use the written rule book as a guide.

Isn't there a new Savage 10T in Creedmoor and a DBM?

not sure if you guys seen my post in my tread but heres the scores from yesterdays varmint match...this is not a real fast paced match as you single load and have 3mins to fire 5 rounds from 220yds to 850yds depending on your classification...note there are 3 RPRs one has had a barrel swap(6XC)but note Matt Cardin's score...factory RPR with hand loads...also note Scotty's score...he just got the RPR was shooting factory ammo and had no dopes...

Masterpiece Arms BA Lite production "PRS" rifle uses a Savage action, why would they use this action?

Because it's cheap enough to build within the production class requirements.

The new Savage short action stealth uses a chassis system that accepts AICS style magazines and is already threaded 5/8-24. If you are set on Savage for the production class I would start their.

The MPA variant has a Bergara barrel that will out perform the Savage factory and is in a much better chassis. That would make the cost difference worth it to me in the long run.

LoneWolf I agree but the MPA has its own limitations for example the LOP cannot be shorter than 13.5. That just doesn't work for me.

Contact them if you're really interested, I bet they could fix you up!

Something as simple as a thinner recoil pad because the one they use is pretty fat.
