    Amazing results!

Would you mind sharing what you are using for the loads? Brass, primer, bullets and Powder?

I'm asking because I'm shooting a Savage in 223, and have been trying some loads for the past 2 months.

I tried CFE 223, IMR 8208 XBR and now I will try Varget.

I tested the Hornady 68gr HPBT, Nosler 69 HPBT, and Hornady 75 AMAX.

Did not get a consistent good load so far for competitions.

If you could share the loads for 223, I would immensely appreciate!

    Thanks,

    Rod

1st place shooter lapua brass, cci sm rifle primers , 77gr smk and varget (you will need to work up but this is a lite load with a 300 yard zero she has to come up 92 clicks (1/8" clicks ) for 600 yards.

the other shooter lapua brass , fed 205m primers , 75gr amax and varget (stout load same applies but with that rifle 85 clicks to 600 (1/8" clicks) seated .003 off the land

my other load for my match ar is lc nato brass cci small rifle primers , 69 gr smk and varget ( it will hold 1 1/2" @ 300 if i do my part right ) son shoots this in our open class with good result alot

    Thanks a lot!

Can you also share the amount of Powder?

This time I'm testing Varget, with the following loads for the Hornady 68gr BTHP:

    23.4 gr of Varget
    23.6 gr of Varget
    24 gr of Varget
    24.2 gr of Varget
    24.4 gr of Varget

I will test 10 rounds each at 100 yards. I will post the Results here.

I will also test the Hornady AMax 75gr with 23gr of Varget, and 2.377 of COL

I'm using Fiocchi brass, I will get some Lapua to test.

Some 77gr smk are on the way, I will reload some of those with the Lapua brass.

I know nothing about the kind of competition you are doing, here at my range I only try to get the smallest group at 100 yards. :)

Again, thanks for sharing, and good luck in the next matches.

    Regards,
    Rod

    No Problem! I understand you...

I just can't do anything more than 24.4, without having to change the COL, I'm already hearing the crunching of the Varget when pressing the bullet...

Thanks for all the info, good luck on future matches!

    Regards,

    Rod

So i did the tests with Varget and IMR 8208 XBR, and those are the results, all from 100 yards:

First target has a single load of IMR powder, and all the same 98 gr Hornady Match bullets, with the same gr of Powder:

With the Varget, I did not get good results, it may be my loads of powder that could still be wrong... More tests to be done (first two target were IMR loads):

These targets are 2 inches diameter, previous ones are 3 inches.

I will test a different load of Varget for the 68 gr bullet, but I'm getting a lot of crunch with 24 and the 68 HPBT Hornady Match. I will increase the COL and test this weekend.

    Regards,

    Rod

It is a heavy barrel 1:9 twist.

    Groups are not that great?

Rifle does not have any pillar or bedding.

Sorry for so many questions, I'm new to this sport and I'm learning everything as I go.

Since this is my first rifle, I got it in 223 for the (almost) cheap ammo, and for being easy to shoot.

I'm thinking about doing some pillar and bedding in this rifle, and still learning how to reload.

    Thanks for all your help,

    Rod

Yes, Do you have a picture of your rifle? What scope? If it has parallax adjustment do you know how to tune it to range? How are you measuring your powder?

This is the rifle, but now I have low rings on it:

I'm afraid I do not know how to set it up for the range...

    The scope is a Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x 50mm

    Thanks

I'm using the Gem Pro 250 to measure the powder:

Point the scope into the blue sky. Adjust the rear focus until the reticle is crisp and sharp. Then point the rifle at the target. You will not need to mess with the rear focus again. Using the left side parallax adjustment, turn it until the target lines are sharp. You need to do this next part with no part of your body touching the table or rifle until you get accustomed to what you are looking for. Looking through the scope move your head around, left to right up down etc..., the reticle and the point of aim should stay locked in. If you see the crosshairs move around on the target even 1/8th inch it will cause you to be off that much every time potentially.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

Are you double checking your charge weights?

I double check some of the loads, not all of then. Did not find any differences.
