Freebore - Criterion and Shilen Barrels

Does anyone know how much freebore there is for Criterion and Shilen prefit Savage barrels? In my case, for the 6mmBR cartridge. I need to be sure that there is the right amount for the bullets I plan to use.

    Thanks.

    Phil,
The freebore on the Criterion 6 BR Norma is .093. Shilen is very similar but Shilen will custom extend the freebore if needed on custom barrel orders.

    Jim,

    Thank you.

Does Criterion (and Shilen) use the same freebore for all twists with 6 BR Norma? I ask because I will be shooting 100 - 200 yards, using light short bullets. A longish freebore for such bullets will limit my ability to touch the lands. Jim Kiff (Pacific Tool & Gauge) comments at 6mmbr.com seem to indicate .093" would be good for bullets around 90 grain. See http://www.6mmbr.com/kiffreamer.html. Specifically where he asked and says,

"Q: Without revealing any trade secrets, what throat lengths do you recommend for a 6mm BR case?

We normally go with a 1.5 degree lead angle, unless the customer wants something different. For 60-68gr bullets we recommend a .060" freebore. For the 80gr bullets, .080" is a good setting. For the 100-107gr VLDs, a .115" -.120" freebore will allow you to get the base of the bullet up out of the doughnut area. This will save you lots of aggravation over the life of the barrel. If I shoot the lighter 60 - 68 grain bullets, seems like .060" is best. I am unsure whether to try to get a slow twist, short freebore barrel, or just get a Criterion in 1:10 twist with the .093" freebore and should 80 - 100 grain bullets".

Once I get some answers, I will be ordering the barrel from you, plus some other stuff. I have no bias toward Criterion or Shilen, but your opinion is welcome.

    Thank you.
