    savage 1899a value

    Hi everybody!

I've got a 1911 Savage 1899a 26" takedown. Looking for an approx value. Gun is in decent shape but someone painted a racing stripe on the and the rock hard cushion on the butt. No rust and bore is clean. Serial numbers match on forend and receiver.

I can't seem to find a way to post pictures.

Is $1000.00 to much to ask as a selling price for this?

Way too much unless it is unique in some way or is in museum condition ("racing stripe" on "cushion" means that it isn't - it would have come with a metal plate for the butt).

In that "altered" condition I see folks ask $650 for them and I actually see them sell sometimes for around $450 - $500.
