    Favorite 7mag loads

    As the title says, Im looking for some good 7mag loads. Bought a take off sporter from the classifieds a while back and just now got it put together. Ive got several 140s, a couple different in the 160s range Ill most likely try. Its will be a deer rifle that Id like to make serviceable out to 400yds....probably won't ever shoot anything past 150 with it but....😉
    I have IMR 4350, IMR 4831, IMR 7828, some H4831, re22, and a several different primers to to play with.
    Thanks for any input guys!

    I'm currently playing with the 175 Accubond LR, 69.5 grains of Retumbo, and a CCI-250 with .083 jump in Remington brass. Groups are just under .25 at 100 with no pressure signs at 59° and 1000ft elevation. Velocity is right at 2875, but I've got some loads to try to see if I can get a little more speed out of it. I know it's not what you're looking for but it might be worth a try if you ever stretch its legs.

    I've played with a lot of loads, and my favorite is Berger 169 gr VLD Hunting Bullets, with Hodgdons H1000 powder. I load them .010" off the lands, and they shoot amazing. It's a very effective round on deer and elk. I killed a bull a few years back with this load, at 400 yards. He dropped in his tracks. It would be a great deer round too, but I still love using my 243 for deer. I'm getting 3050 fps with the 169 gr bullet, out of a stock 24" inch barrel too, which is pretty respectable.

    RE22 is very popular with 140 and 160's. I run 4831 in mine, my recipe was developed before RE 22 was available. Suggest you use a Large Rifle Magnum primer - CCI 250s are what I'm using.

    This load is a real hammer. About 3300fps and extremely accurate. Used it in several Savage rifles from 22" to 26" barrels.
    120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
    69.5gr H4831
    Winchester Brass
    Federal 215M Primer
    OAL=3.30"

    140gr Berger VLD/Hunting
    63gr Hodgdon H100V
    Winchester Brass
    Federal 215M Primer
    OAL=3.375"

    This 160 load and also using a 168gr Sierra Match King is one of the most accurate loads I ever used in a 7MM Magnum.
    160gr Sierra SBT
    63.1 Reloader 19
    Winchester Brass
    Federal 215M Primer
    OAL=3.260"

    Thanks for all the input guys! I appreciate it! I got plenty of of most of those bullets except the 175gr Accubond....and most of those powders. Ill definitely try some of those recipes....working up to them of course. Ill post my results after I shoot some of them.
    Thanks again!

    I loaded up a few rounds last week for it. I used 140 Sierra GK seated .020 off, and IMR 4831. I loaded up 2 rounds each working up in .5gr increments. I shot off a lead sled....not something I typically do but on my little bit bigger stuff I do. I only had 4rd of factory ammo laying around, I got it paper and got it fairly close with my last round @ 100. These are the 2 shot groups I shot.

    Im pleased thus far....especially considering its $35 used take off..... The first dot is 1", the others are 5/8"

    My 7mag likes the Nosler 160 grain Accubond ahead of a max charge of Retumbo and a Federal 215 primer wrapped up in RP cases.

    I am going to ask the question that no one has asked. What 7mag are you talking about??? There is about 25 different 7mags that I can think of. Is it a 7/243 Mag or is it a 7/378Mag?

    Not for nothing but when someone referrers to a 7 Mag, It's a 7 Rem mag unless other wise noted.

    My loads that I've tried that have worked well in my rifle:
    63.3gr H4831sc shooting 180g berger hybrid
    63g of reloader 22 shooting 180g berger hybride
    63.1g of reloader 19 shooting 168smk
    They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

    I've always had great luck with 66.0gr Re22 behind the 160gr Accubond. Shoots great in several rifles I play with. Usually load to SAAMI, plus a few tens so they work in multiple rifles. I haven't spent a lot of time working on the 7mm.

    H4831 was the powder we used to use with the 7 Rem Mag. Others have come along that seem to be as good or better but H4831 still has my soft spot.

    Maybe it's just me but I've not had great luck with re22 in a couple rifles I've tried it in. But to be fair I may not have given it a fair chance. I've got some at home, maybe I'll try it again. Thanks!
    I've no tried h4831 in it, I tried it in my 280AI and it didn't give the speed I thought I should have gotten. I'll look and see if I have any at home and I'll try it too.
    Thanks again guys!
