More Nosler 338 Caliber 180 gr Ballistic Tips!

I've said before that I wished Nosler would make the old 180 Ballistic Tip available for use in the .338 Federal - well Shooter's Pro Shop has some available as factory seconds! Now that I've safely gotten my order in I can tell you guys. Should be perfect for whitetails.

Thanks for the link I've been looking for these also, but for them to ship to me in MN they want 16.16 S&H, I'll have to pass. But thanks for posting your find maybe somemore will come around a little closer to me.

You may want to tell them to put it in a flatrate box. Lot less than what they quoted you to get my bullets to Alaska!

FWIW, they offer the Accubonds in a 180. That is, if you don't mind the tips breaking off...

Besides, doesn't an NBT just look plain weird with a cannelure? You might mistake it for a Hornady. ;D

Even with the shipping these are cheaper than Nosler's 180 gr AccuBonds. Now that I've got a good pile of bullets I'll have to get busy working up some new hunting loads - these should work well with that 8 pound jug of IMR 8208 XBR I managed to grab. It didn't take long for IMR 8208 XBR to get scarce, I'm glad I jumped on it before the benchresters got it all! Cale?

I am pretty much set for the next 50 years.

Wonder why I have never had a tip of any denomination break off? Been using the Accubond since they came out. Now I use it in every hunting caliber I own and I guess I lead a charmed life as never a broken tip.

I don't know if you can call it hoarding - it's just so much cheaper to buy in bulk. A pound here and a pound there - you're at the mercy of supply and demand and those lots aren't alway the same. I wasn't always this way, hanging around you accuracy nuts has turned me to the dark side!

Anyone ever shot a whitetail with one of these bullets? I have out of a 338 win mag, bang flop, and it was devastating! 110lb field dressed doe shot at 225yds. The bullet entered through mid ribs and exited on the far shoulder. I shot her in a cut corn field and the stocks had been cut over knee high. I went to the spot where I thought she dropped and she wasn't there, but I saw some fur. I traced the fur back 25yds towards my stand and there she laid. I rolled her over and watched lung and heart among other tissue and blood spill out of the 6in diameter exit wound. The shoulder was just gone, I have been using my 270 since. I'm thinking of taking this gun along for some more whitetail hunts, but will probably try to load some 225 AB ballistic tips up next time. Anyone know of a good bullet for this caliber that wont cause as much damage?

A 338 Win Mag for whitetails, hmmm... I shot a small doe with my .338 Federal and a 180 gr. AccuBond at close range and she still managed to go 50 yards. It was a big shock that she went that far because the bullet hit the top of her heart and blood was just spraying out the exit wound. I decided to go with a Hornady 200 gr Interlock for my next deer and that worked very well (I wanted more expansion). With the extra velocity from the .338 Win Mag I think you are on the right track switching to a Nosler 200 or 225 gr AccuBond. I don't have much experience with Barnes Bullets, maybe 1Shot or Tammons will add their advice.

Since the 180 Bal Tips are not made any more I am going to guess they were discontinued do to their explosive nature. A short time after they were discontinued the Accubond came out.

I have never shot anything with the 180 Bal Tip. I have however used the 180's and 200 grain Accubonds for lots of deer (bang flop) and my wife took a 1600pound buffalo through the skull and it was also a bang flop.

Exit wounds on deer were one inch

I like the bal tip for checking POI so I use less Accubonds which cost a lot more.

...I like Nos. 200gr CT's on deer with my .338 Fed. Shot 1 at about 40yds & it never took a step...My deer ground is too wooded for any long shots...Never had a chance to use the Barnes 160's on deer yet..Might have to go look for a Groundhog to try it on..lol..
...Natchez has the 180 accu-bonds in stock...

    pbcaster45,
those 200 grn hornady interlocks , what fps at the muzzle ,do you know ?
They work good on deer you say ?
Reason I ask, I read on a site in regards to the 200 h interlocks, they did not expand at close range ?
I belive that was in a 338 win mag.
I have a 338-06 stevens 200 build, and want to try the 180 accubonds and a 200 grn bullet in it, for mule deer and elk.
Alittle more velocity, flatter shooting than the 30-06 with same weights.
I have had good results with the interlocks in 257 and 270 though.
    Thanks

    Monkeymaster,

It's all on this thread: http://savageshooters.com/SavageForu...c,25784.0.html

They were going about 2630 fps on the eight point I bagged, definite signs of expansion but I didn't recover the bullet. That ribcage is actually upside down...

The .338 cal 180 Ballistic Tips are available again! These are top quality and shoot great in my .338 Federal - these are not blemished bullets. I'm not a Nosler salesman but these are a steal!
