    How Much Bullet Jump?

How much do I need, if any.
Still new to tweaking for accuracy.

    Thanks

Your rifle will tell you how much it likes. Every rifle is different.

Ive found that seating the pill depths at .030 difference is a good start. one will be better than the others

Please take a look at this link to Berger bullets.

It works. When you find the most accurate, then tweak it both ways from the "best".

Today was a miserable day weather wise (pouring rain and 15 mph constant wind) but I went to test the new 6br with the Berger 105's ,worse load s I ever set up. I started just in the lands and moved back .005, .010,.013, the further back I went the better it got but it still only produced 0.847 5 shots @100. Now with this same bullet at .022 off the lands from my 243 was shooting in the lowwww .2's most every time out. So now I need to up the charge between .5-1gr. and back up the bullet .010- .020 or more from where I left off(increase in powder to get rid of verticle ).
Now on the good side I also shot the 308 match with 110 Sierra's with a mid range powder charge of IMR 4895 set .021 off and shot 3 groups of 5 in the mid .3's.
So over all 50/50 day, I was hoping for better from the 6br but this was trial and error( knew this going in ) and at this point it only has 30 rounds through it.

Don't be afraid to run the Berger all the way out to .150" or so.

I thought I was they only one who set with that much jump.

With a 6br and 105 berger vld's I jam them 0.01 into the lands with 30 grs Varget and br4's.

    Try that!

My 6mm BR F-Open shoots Berger 105gr VLDs best at .010" jump.
My Savage/Shilen .223 F/TR gun shoots Berger 70gr VLDs best at .050 Jump.
My Howa-1500 .223 shoots most any bullet well at .005" jump.

I never went much more than .015" before I read the Berger VLD article. I'm surprised .050" jump works in my F/TR gun, but it does.

    Bottom line: You gotta' test.

    Start here

THEN play with seating depth. I work in .003 increments closer to the lands, starting at .030 jump, ending with .003 jam. Some do .005, .030, all up to you. Groups will shrink then open up again. Youll know when you find it. It will seem like you could aim at the sun one shot then the moon the next and the impact will be the exact same location.
Some people want to make a difference in the world. I'm just here to howl at the moon.

Just remember if your load doesn't shoot worth a hoot to begin with no amount of seating depth tweaking is going to make it shoot well. Load them where the manual tells you to and adjust accordingly as you find decent loads.

Short answer, whatever the rifle likes the best! It may be dependent on application purpose (need to be fed from a magazine vs single feed, etc).

I use the ocw method like front royalty mentioned. What a time saver. Try to shoot it at 300y plus. Once you get a load then play with seating depth. Easier to find a load first then tweak. Only play with one variable at a time otherwise you're just making it harder.

The VLD bullets generally like into the lands or pretty close. The hybrids on the other hand are much easier to tune and can jump a good bit. Every rifle is different but finding a load in the middle of a node is much better than finding a load that has a very small window for accuracy.
