    New 10 build 7mm-08

Hello new to the forums. Want to build a Savage 10 in 7mm-08 for an Antelope hunt. Will purchase a complete rifle, want to restock and maybe rebarrel. Want to keep the weight down, 7 lbs total with scope. Any suggestions on stock and barrel. Thanks in advance. Would like a fluted barrel.

Buy a lightweight hunter in that cartridge.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

Ditto on the Lightweight hunter. 7-08 is one of the calibers listed. You should easily stay under the 7 lbs you're asking for.

Unless you are left handed, then when you call to see if they can put a lightweight hunter together for you in the custom shop - let me know so I can order one too. That's what I plan to do when enough benjamins get bored in my pocket. I'm thinking of a few mods, I think I'll be able to keep it under 6 lbs scoped, loaded, and slung.

Will be interesting to see where it comes in. Won't be disappointed if it is in the 6's.

Start with this at 5.5 http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/11LH
    Talley Lightweight rings http://www.midwayusa.com/product/178...lat-rear-matte
Knock 4" off the barrel to 16"
Replace the stock with a McMillan Edge
Scope if with a something like these 2:
    https://www.leupold.com/hunting-shoo...24mm-30mm-cds/
    or this one https://www.leupold.com/hunting-shoo...-hog-1-4x20mm/

If I lose some weight with the stock and barrel change from a rifle that starts at 5.5 lbs, the rest might fit on and keep it right in the neighborhood. We'll have to see if Savage custom shop would build a left hand lightweight rifle though. Without a 5.5 lb start - it will be 6.5 lbs in a heartbeat.

Reducing the barrel to 16" is big right there. The stock choice is also significant, but is outside my comfort zone price wise.

My next two choices, would be
Stay with the LWH Stock OR
A basic Savage tupperware stock, IS very light and inexpensive. Rockite the forend for a bit more stiffness at a few more OZs

My Lightweight Mod 10 was build before the LWH came out. It's a Mod 10 308 with a sporter barrel cut to 16" and Savage plastic stock. Aero Precision ultralight mound and a Leupold VX 1 4-12 scope. at about 7lbs
