Had a McGowen in 308 I got through GunShack. It shot every load I put through it half MOA or less. For load dev all I did was pick a bullet and desired velocity. After I sold the barrel to another member here I kind of kicked myself after e later posted pictures of his groups lol. Honestly though, it's hard to get a bad barrel from McGowen, X Caliber, or Criterion etc. It's all in who has what you want and how long you're willing to wait!

I like mine in 260, sub MOA always, but not nearly as good as my 243 Shilen Select that shoots .3's.
If I had to do over, I would go with the Shilen

I have one in .260AI and it is a fantastic shooting barrel. I liked it so much I put one on my wifes 6mmBR and that thing wil stack 105VLDs in the .2s at 100 yards.

Only in the BR. Thats the only rifle I own that prefers them in the lands. I run Bergers in everything and they are all set .025" from the lands. The BR still shoots half in groups seated off the lands but really tightens up just kissing the lands.

I had a Savage stainless small shank #2 Douglas contour in 260 rem from McGowen. It shot 130 Accubonds under .5" at 100yd and stayed sub moa out to 500yd off the lead sled. The gun was around 6.5 lbs and I had a hard time shooting it well from field positions at longer ranges but that was my fault not the barrel. Overall I was very happy with it when I sold it since I already had a 6.5x55 and used the short action for a different build.

I am currently shooting a 260 Rem. McGowen Savage Bull Contour that will shoot .3-5-shot groupings at 100yds.. If i do my part it will shoot .235 groupings. This is using pulled down
260 federal brass with imr-4350. It will do this with 123/140 grain amax ; also with 140 grain Barnes match burner.. It also cleans up easily.

Outside diameter of the group minus the diameter of the bullet.

These are the kind of results Ive read up on. I was having difficulty getting ahold of Jim at Apache so I noticed they showed a Mcgowen at gun shacks website. I figured great right?......not even close. As I call to make sure they have it as to purchase it, the gent on the other lines says they don't have it and don't know when they,ll get any in. They come in when they come in. Luckily for me.....Jim got ahold of me so I ordered up the x-caliber from Apache.
Heres a thought...... If you offer a website to shop from?.....then it might be a good idea to keep it updated.

Hello to all !! I agree with you all on updating the inventory that they have in stock..When i ordered my McGowen barrel i made my order from McGowen's website.. It was a semi-custom barrel. The service rep. at the time was very helpful and kept me informed when my barrel order was complete with tracking number.. Nothing bad to say about them...
