    Manufacture date of model 110.

    Hi Folks,

I am new here and would like to see if anyone here could help me in finding the date of manufacture for my old model 110.
It has been in the family since the early 60's. Serial number is 4442.

I want to restore this old girl and perhaps knowing the date of manufacture will help with finding a few parts for it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Muley

Welcome to the forum Muley. Unfortunately, Savage is not going to have any information on a rifle that old, and not many parts cross over. However...You have come to the right place. There are many people here interested in older Savage rifles, and will be more than willing to help preserve a piece of Savage history. If you could post some pictures of the rifle, that would go a long way towards identifying it.

Did you miss a number in the Serial Number? Every one of the early 110's I've seen had 5-digits, though that's not to say there can't possibly be 4-digit guns out there. If it is only 4-digits that would likely make it a 1959 production gun. Earliest I have in my notes is S/N 14199 which dates to 1960.

No, that is the number. I'm beginning to think it has to be prior 1959. I have seen some 5 number serials that put them in the 59 to 60 range.

I did manage to find an old schematic that matches my rifle to a "T".
Like to post it somehow but I don't know how to do that.

What kind of parts do you need? Have seen quite a few older Savage parts on ebay. With a paid membership, you would have access to the classifieds, including the "wanted to buy". Well worth the $.

    It's a first year manufacture.....1958.

Should be able to find a date code on the barrel, it's a circle with a number and a letter stamped inside of it, the letter will be a "J".

I do have a couple early 110's in my records with a 1957 date code but they were late and not being sold yet, I imagine just being manufactured in late 1957 before being shipped in 1958.

    Thanks Mad Dog,
Cant find a circle with a letter but I will look closer. I have her all apart now and getting her ready for some pillar bedding and then I'll bed the action.

Hope this old girl shoots well after the bedding and free floating the barrel.

All mine have shot very well. The .243 shoots .4" with Nosler Partitions. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
