Wanting a new 22 rifle. questions.

    I'm wanting to buy a savage 22lr.
I've got 2 Remington Speedmasters, one from1965 or so and one from 1980s.
Both were very accurate in their day. But, when my kids were little we would go to our cabin and they'd each shoot 500+ rounds from the front porch target shooting.
I figure both of them have well over 30,000 rounds fired over the years.
With that said, I've not shot them in years, but now neither is very accurate.

I am looking for a rifle that is very accurate to squirrel hunt with, but also for my wife and I to do some plinking.
I love the Savage rifles that I own and want a Savage 22.

    questions:
    1. Are the semi-autos as accurate as the bolts? I am assuming the semi is not.
    2. Are there some models to stay away from?
    3. Are there any differences in accuracy in the Mark-2 BV line and the Mark-2 F series?
    4. Any accuracy differences between the SS and carbon steel barrels?

I like the looks of the Mark-2 FSS, the Mark-2 BV, Mark-2 BTVSS.
Never had a thumbhole stock, never even held one, so not real sure about that.

    thanks in advance,
    rph

I can't help with the .22 models but my 93r17 (17HMR) is pretty accurate right out of the box. My only complaint with it was the horrible trigger (non-accutrigger), but I got a SSS trigger that I am hoping will clean that up.

anyone have experience with the Mark-2 FSS?
I like the weight of that one and like the SS and synthetic.

Agreed on the 93 22 wmr..I'm not hijacking tour thread or ignoring what your asking for..but its incredibly light..like a toy..as for accuracy..holes touch at 50 yards easily..brand new barrell so alot don't touch lol I'm confident it will be a quentesential tack driver when its broken in.

The Savage MKII for the most part are very good shooters, even the pencil barrels. If you do buy one change the bottom metal, the factory is paper thin and flimsy and I recommend an Apachee Trigger kit for the Accutrigger.

Although you are on a savage forum, I would suggest a cz. lifetime accuracy and quality construction.

I bought the MK-2 BV. Looking forward to shooting it.

I contacted Remington and they want $129 for a replacement barrel for my Rem 552.
I will send it in soon as they require the rifle shipped to them.

Check your barrel for lead before sending it in.

Can't go wrong with a heavy barrel Mark II. Mine came in a laminated stock and then I changed the stock with a Boyd's laminated thumbhole that was a perfect drop in. Very nice and also very accurate.
