    Savage 99 Takedown No Checkering?

I have a 99 from 1911. It is a takedown. The wood is stamped with the same number as the receiver and I say it is original. I am being told that it can't be original because it is not checkered.

Was there a model 99 takedown from ~1911 that was not checkered?

Not sure who your getting your info from but all take downs from that serial range wouldn't have had checkering and if it did it would have been a special order rifle.

Lots of models without checkering that were take downs in 1911, , 1899A's, 1899A Short Rifles, model 1899H's, etc....

    Your good.

    Ok great.
I am trying to get it restored. Any recommendations? I am looking for new wood front and back, blue, and gone through to tighten up the action.
The person who said it should be checkered is a gunsmith who claims to do this type of service.

He probably told you it should be checkered so he could get the checkering gig.
