What's the deal with recoil lugs?

    Hi all,

So I'm gonna be swapping a 6BR barrel onto a model 11 204 and have been told that i should replace the factory recoil lug while i've got the barrel off.

So what's the deal with recoil lugs? What effect does thickness have? What about parallel or tapered shank? Good brands?

    Thanks for the help,

    Jake

Factory lugs are stamped..may or may not be straight.

SSS, Northland and others are machined and straight........cheap piece of mind while you've got the barrel off anyways.

Are the target action and LRVP actions Recoil Lug better/different or all the same except the shank size?

All Savage lugs will be the stamped type, even those on the lrpv and target action. Sharp Shooter Supply and other aftermarket lugs are machined dead flat.
