Issue with Boyds Pro Varmint for AXIS HB Short action.

So, After a month of thinking and thinking i pulled the trigger on a Boyds Pro Varmint/Tacticool stock. I waited about 2 weeks (no big deal there) before my stock arrived. I opened it up and everything looked good from a glance. Well when i went to slide my action into the stock i noticed it was a little tight... again no biggie. Once i got the action seated as deep as i could into the stock i went to attach the trigger guard and the front screw plastic peace that looks like it doubles as the mag catch and a pillar. well thats when i encountered my issue...when i went to tighten the screw down i bottomed out...WAY before i snugged the action down... the back screw (trigger side) snugged up pretty well from what i could tell... but the front, not so good. I was able to move the action about a quarter inch while that screw was completely tightened down... so i though "maybe i can get shorter screw!". well after trying that i realized not only was the barrel no longer even close to free floating but the freaking mag would lock in place.. like not even close. its almost like the mag was too long now! lol thats when i came to the realization either... A: Im an idiot and down know what im doing ( though iv bedded actions/made custom stocks..ect) or B: I got a big fat stinky dud...and that really upsets me considering iv waited over 2 weeks for it...only to possibly have to turn around and send it back.

Im just here to ask... has anyone ran into an issue similar? and is there some major difference between the HB and the standard barrel? because im thinking they have made soo many for the standard axis... maybe they have got those mastered and they are new tot he HB version and thats why this one seems off in spec... Ill try to post pics later of some of the problems. btw this is my first post. I hate it has to be about this and not me showing off my new build.

So...thats the gap im dealing with when i have the front screw all the way tightened and the little mag catch/pillar is all the way inserted...there is enough gap that i can slid that washer in there... i could get a nickle in there probably.

Here it is when i press the action down into the stock all the way.. it looks good as far as a good bed for the action to lay on... only problem is.. look how much further the screw is towards the top of the plastic pillar

OK so the last 2 probably show better than anything the difference in the bolt protrusion between the factory stock and the Boyd... look how much higher it goes past the lug in the boyds.

Oh and how could i forget this... this is with the action pressed as deep as it will sit in the stock....thats as far as the mag will sit..it hits up against the bottom of the action and WILL NOT pop down in...

If anyone has any Info about these stocks on an Axis please please msg me so i could get some specs from you to see how far off mine might be.

Had a similar problem with my Axis Prairie Hunter...front bolt was too short to start with and when it was tightened down the magazine would not seat properly.

Something is wrong with the stock. Contact Boyds customer service. It can be a pain to get a hold of them, but the last time I tried was over a year ago. When one of my Boyds stocks arrived withan obvious defect, they sent me a return label and, later, a new stock.

Thanks for the reply guys!! i was really lucky to get ahold of them right off the bat this morning when they opened. Maybe thats the trick call at the crack of dawn. lol anyways they are emailing me return label and im gonna send it off. they claim they will ship me a new one as soon as i call them with the tracking number. i hate im now possible going to have to wait 4 to 5 weeks total... oh well hope its worth the wait! btw DrThunder88 i am subbed to you on Youtube!

Mine fit perfectly from the factory.

Most of mine, and I only have seven, have been fine right out of the box too, not including the modifications I do to "finish" them. One or two I had to re-seat the front mag latch plate, and the other—the one I had to return—had a delamination right at the front action screw.

Yeah i assumed it should have been mostly a drop in situation. and i kinda planned on doing my own little touch ups to it.. suck as pillars and bedding. unfortunately mine was too far off to even fix myself and im somewhat handy with a tool. i mean. i did make this stock myself for my savage Mark ii fvsr [IMG][/IMG]
