I picked up a left handed Savage 110 with serial number beginning with E for my son. My buddy threw in a 308 factory varmint barrel with stainless nut and recoil lug. He didn't have the magazine for the gun. I found Pacific Tool makes their own bottom metal to accept the Accuracy International magazines. If I go this route does the magazine carrier attached to the action get removed? Sorry for my ignorance as I have only used Savage actions to make smokeless muzzleloaders. Yes, you would remove the magazine carrier attached to the action if you changed to the PT&G hardware. Just know that nobody that I know of offers stocks inlet for PT&G's hardware so you would have to do it yourself or find a local gunsmith to do it for you.

Yes, you need to remove the metal box that is attached to the action. I have tried using a C-clamp to compress it enough to remove it, a screwdriver and the mallet smack technique. Mallet smack has always been the most reliable for me with the least chance of deforming or scratching the part. I prefer smacking the box on the trigger end of the action, which requires removing the entire trigger so you can get a good shot at it. I have tried both ends and the back end strike has worked with the first blow every time, unlike the front end method.
Getting one to go back in is another story.......nothing seems to work well for me.

Thanks for the info. The plan was to get a Boyds Pro Varmint for detachable box mag. Is there another make that would fit or be an easier fit compared to the PT&G?
CDi Precision Gunworks offers similar bottom metal that takes AI mags and they will inlet your stock to accept it. Their website is a little lacking, so best to just call Jeff and discuss your needs with him.

If you have a bit more $$ you might consider a chassis rather than adding bottom metal to your existing stock. They come with the removable mag option built in and provide a very stable platform for your action.
What you are paying for the bottom metal kit only from CDI will get you half way to the cost for the MDT chassis without a buttstock. You can use any old AR-15 buttstock assembly on it or something fancy. Weight is under 2 lbs.

They make them for lefty shirt action but not long. I was going to go with MDT but chose to order a McMillin instead. The only chassis manufacturer that I have found making for left hand long action is Mcrees precision.
