    Early Scout Magazine ?

We have an early savage Scout rifle F prefix. The magazine that came with it is dysfunctional, and apart. The follower does not set level in the magazine body. I had started a thread about changing the stock.

Anyway we decided to buy another magazine and after receiving the new style magazine twice even though the listing picture showed the correct older type magazine, I went on eBay and found some older Savage Magazines in boxes, I bought one, my brother bought two listed together. all are marked for .243-.308 and one has .22-250 also.

I was going to post pictures but will have to upload to get an URL, but my main question is this:

The magazine that came with this Scout has the longer feed lips, the magazine I bought also has the longer feed lips. The two magazines my brother bought has the shorter feed lips. All magazines are the same length and box style. Both types seem to feed okay. My assumption is that the magazine with the short feed lips is for the short action, and the longer feed lips for the long action short cartridge; is that correct?

I did read through some FAQs before posting.

These are the ones bought on eBay:

Which one is correct for the short action Model 10?

The one on the left looks like it has the same length feed lips as your original. The one on the right are shorter so the round will come up sooner. IDK, it may work also, but I'd go with the one on the left. Visual observation only...

I have a long action 111FC and the magazine overall length is longer than my 243/308 stagger feed. It would not fit in the short action at all.

Either way we have at least one correct functioning magazine, and two spares that will work also.
I had a Savage 110 FCP that was chambered in .308, blind magazine, but the magazine and receiver cut were shorter than they would have been for the full length cartridge. This is why the question about whether the longer feed lips are for the rifles made with only the long action, but for the shorter cartridges.

I have heard of the long action short caliber but haven't seen one. Hey, you have more than one magazine that can work so that's a big plus! :-)

    Oh yes it is!
I'm inclined to believe that the short feed lip magazine are the original design and that the longer feed lips worked just fine, so that is the correct magazine.

We really like this Scout, it is a nice rifle.

I had a Savage Model 10 FLP, but have an eye issue and have to shoot right handed. But I also had a LH Savage Model 110 in .308 that was the long action and short cartridge.

Well the magazine on the left is the correct one, and worked just fine. The one on the right pops out when the rifle is fired, so it must be for an older model rifle.
The one of the left the metal protrudes on the top of the retaining slot, on the right its even.
