    Measuring Pillar Length

Getting ready to try my hand at bedding a stock. What's the best way to determine the correct pillar length?

I cut them long, insert into an enlarged action screw hole and grind/trim them back until right. (Even with the top of the stock's surface that meets the bottom of the action.)

If you're looking for new, original style or generic pillars, go here; https://www.stockysstocks.com/access...-supplies.html

After bedding the action, I waxed the pillars and epoxied them into the stock. This made the pillar hole an exact fit to the pillar, which can then be removed if you wish. I used the original Savage pillars, which are hat shaped and required a 1/2 inch counter bore.

They are installed recessed so the action screws are not proud on the bottom of the stock.
