cheek rest

Hey guys I just got my model 12 6mm br in today,I got the scope mounted on and I am going to need a cheek rest.Have any of you installed one.I would like to hear the pros and cons or the preferred brands.I have seen some that require you to drill holes,I do not know if I could make myself drill holes in a new stock.Thanks Jeff

I have installed several cheek rests i got from Karsten custom all you have too do drill two 1/4 inch holes were needed as per instructions, http://www.karstenskydexcheekrest.com

Or you can just get a stock pack from Triad. They come with 4 risers for under the stock pack to raise it more and using a stock pack is nicer on the face than a hard plastic rest.

I make my own out of 1/8" Kydex (or its non-name brand equivalent acrylic-PVC) sheets.

The scope is about 3/8 inch off the barrel,I don't think I can get it any closer.Jeff

I've layered 1/4" foam and formed it into cheak rest, covered with camo form wrap and then put a sock or soft ace bandage over it. It's very firm, doesn't move and costs $5... At least until you put hands on some cheak rests and figure out what you want...

I also use the Triad stock packs. Two of them in fact. They're available in different sizes and configurations.

I've tried quite a few different stock packs and they all seem to move around and not provide a very stable repeatable cheek weld.
I like the Karsten style and also make them for myself from kydex and hardware store knobs and bolts. Really easy with lots of online how to info.
I was kinda puckered up the first time I drilled holes in a stock but use a good template, measure twice drill once and it's a piece of cake.

If you get it adjusted right and pull it tight it doesn't move. Same as any stock pack. Been using different brands for years and never had one move on me when properly adjusted and tightened.

I have mine mounted on shotguns, the one I only use 3" magnums in. It doesn't shift at all and in fact I rigged the strap across the end of the stock as a sling attachment point. I'd add pics but I haven't figured out how yet.

I take a small piece of wood.
Dremel it into the shape I want.
Drill 3 horizontal holes. Tie it down.
Cover it up with a butt stock cover.
Done this with 4 guns. No issues.
