How much $$$ did you put into your Axis

I was just wondering what the average amount most people have in there rifle after adding everything to it. I doubt many people leave the savage axis the way it is. Mine was 400 with all the California fees and taxes for the rifle. I figure I will have right around 950-1,000 in my rifle total when I'm done with it. There were cheaper ways I could have gone but I really like my setup. And I'm going to love it when it's finished

hmmm, probably way too much ...

savage axis heavy barrel rifle .308win - 300
boyds stock and trigger guard - 128
    timney trigger - 120
witt machine muzzle brake - 95
sss single feed ramp - 28
    champion bipod - 65
kick killer butt pad - 38 (dang, i gotta dye that leather black!)
    weaver scope base - 37
leapers utg scope rings - 26
sun optics 4-14x44 sf ffp glass - 430

hmm ... yeah, at 1267 it's kinda pricey for a bottom feeder 300 buck tuperware rifle ...

after breaking in the barrel on wednesday at 50 meters and 50 rounds, i just zero'd it in at 100 yards this morning before heading off to the 200 range and bpcr practice work with the .45-70 rolling block. the axis hb did ok, i didn't do so great. 10 rounds fired, including 2 "my bad" fliers way off the mark, 8 kinda clustered. sierra match king 155's and H4895. the witt brake really helps with keeping the rifle from bouncing and punching when fired, but it's Loud. the recoil feels really light, hafta try it without the kick killer recoil pad. anyhoo, buncha trigger and load recipe work left ....

Here's a Link to my build thread from a little while ago now. I had $1500 into it, but have since sold and moved on. This was the first rifle I built and have built 6 more since then. Sold off all, but the latest one.

I have about $650 into each of the kids 308's. But they did a lot of the work themselves so it was "family time". Well spent dollars there.

Did a more custom one thats been sold had $1100-ish into it. With cdi on board now it can only get better.

The Taxis project was just under $1000 before paint and homebrew hardware until I replaced the shimmed factory trigger with a Rifle Basix. Maxis was a bit less. Depite opting for a recoil pad and pepper laminate stock instead of a normal plywood model from Boyds, the barrel from Apache cost far less than a Shilen and the host rifle was a smoking deal. The cheapest build was probably my first Axis (for which I don't have a stupid nickname). Even with its "bargain barn" Boyds stock and Battlezone scope, the total cost was just under $700.

This is with the recouped funds from selling the unused parts, of course.

I gave a lot of concideration to going this route and purchasing an axis II xp. I liked the trigger and the weaver scope seemed to work well but I really wanted to go with the heavy barrel that only comes in the basic model axis. I'm also glad I found my own scope because I learned a lot about the differences in scopes and mounts.

    It came with a Burris E1 3x-9x, not a Weaver. I already have a Savage 10FLP and a Remington 700 VSLH, so I wanted a lighter barrel.

I was going to build a .300BLK on it, but it shoots well enough that I will probably keep it as is.

I bought an Axis in .223 this spring. I added a Weaver 3x9 that I had laying around, and a slip on recoil pad to increase the length of pull. No other modifications. This rig shoots Hornady 53 gr. HP match bullets into .29" and 50 gr. Varmint Grenades into .54" at 100 yards. Ground squirrel gun complete.

OTD was $254 with my employee discount. I did the $1 trigger job and added Weaver rings and bases for about $20, so I guess $275 all in except the scope.

I acquired a brand new (5 rounds through it) Savage Axis .223, Weaver rail, Blackhawk 6 screw rings and Bushnell AR223 Drop Zone Reticle 3-9x40 all set up and ready for the range. I installed a sling I found laying in the cabinet. Paid $45.00 for a tripod and installed it.

I traded an EOTech sight I had gotten for free, for the Savage. So it appears I have $45.00 in the rifle. My first Savage and best firearm deal I ever made. I think I'm going to like this little rifle. Hog and deer hunting on the river and in the swamp.

The Axis is really hard to beat for the money. The last two I bought, after the rebate comes back, will have cost me $90 each, brand new. I caught them on clearance, and Savage has a rebate on them.

My Creedmoor breakdown though, goes roughly as follows (this is all off the top of my head)
    Rifle - $159 (Another clearance)
    Stock - $140ish
    Bipod - $50
    Barrel - We're gonna call it $250, because I can't remember
    Brake - $45
    Scope/Caps - $900
    Base - $35
    Rings - $50
    Level - $30

Somewhere in the $1600 range it looks like. Sub 1/4 moa groups with an Axis, priceless.

Stock turned out really great. Somehow I get sticker shock with the add on stuff. But for $240 that does dress er up nicely!

.270 Axis, $257 for the rifle, $20 for a Weaver one-piece scope base, $10 for Weaver rings, $149 for a Nikon scope, $1 for a lighter trigger spring. Shoots just under 1 MOA using Winchester, Remington or Federal 130 gr. loads -- the cheap ones you find at Walmart, not the premium stuff.

I own 2 . The first was the original Savage Edge in .223 name later change to Axis same exact gun for those who don't know . Paid $169.00 on sale from a Dunhams Sports . Original Bushnell Legend 4-12 AO scope Japan made glass on closeout $125.00 and EGW rail $35.00 with used rings I had . Polished trigger and put in light $1.00 spring . Stiffened the stock and it's my varmint hunter and very accurate .Total cost of under $350.00 .
Gun number 2 . Axis Heavy barrel .223 , $345.00 out the door, used Simmons 6.5-20 Whitetail Classic Mil Dot scope $60.00, EGW rail $40.00 , Weaver Grand Slam rings $25.00 , polished trigger and springs $1.00 , material to reinforce stock $10.00 . Total right at $475.00 . This gun with factory Hornady SST 55 grain ammo will print consistent 1'' groups at 100 yards and 1.5 '' to 2.0'' groups at 200 yards from a good rest set up . These guns will shoot with a little work . My heavy barrel Axis out shoots my model 11VT heavy barrel Savage with Accu Trigger and a much better stock .

I have $1255 in my first one which you can read about in the 4-part series here.

    T&T by SSS
    SSS recoil lug
    Timney trigger
    Custom bolt handle
    Fluted bolt body
    SSS Pro-Hunter stock
Shilen Chrome-moly barrel in .284 Win. (#5 contour)
    DNZ Hunt Master rings/mount
    Leupold FX-III 6x42mm scope

My second one which I just finished I have roughly $600 in without the scope, but I stuck with the factory barrel and did the AccuTrigger conversion rather than go with an aftermarket one. (us lefties don't get a factory AT option)

    T&T by SSS
    AccuTrigger conversion
Surface ground factory 110 recoil lug
    Custom bolt handle
    Fluted bolt body
    SSS Pro-Hunter stock
    DNZ Hunt Master rings/mount combo

WOW! You must get a lot of compliments about that stock. That is something else. I like that.

Man, I kind of put this number out of my head for a while for the one I am currently building, but here it is:

Axis in 243 Win - $179 (I got a steal on the gun and actually bought 2)
New CBI 1" Bull Barrel in 6.5 CM - $320
Trued barrel nut from Northland: $30
Single shot feed ramp from SSS: $18
Bolt fluting with color fill from SSS: $55
    Bolt handle from Glades: $69
    Stock from Boyds: $200
    Trigger guard from Boyds: $15
Pillar and glass bedding materials: $50
    Rifle Basix trigger: $90
    EGW Base: $40
Vortex precision matched rings rings: $150
    Vortex Viper HST 6-24X50: $650

So all in, the gun itself is going to be (still waiting on stock arrival and have not purchased the scope yet, pictures will come once it is done) about $1,850. That does not take into account this is the first time I have swapped barrels or built one from the ground up, so I also had to purchase a barrel nut wrench ($40) and action wrench/vise ($60). Along with the go and no-go gauges in 6.5 CM ($65). In addition to that, I have yet to purchase the dies, brass, bullets, or powder I plan to try. So all in on this project, I am north of $2,000.

Now, this is my 4th Axis. The first three all just got a Boyds stock for about $150ish, and wear Viper 6.5-20X50 for about $400. So my other three are all right around $800 each.

Man, that sure adds up quickly considering I got the gun for only $179.99...

It's kinda like getting your "plain Jane" 10/22 and then going to the aftermarket store! Or your "optics ready" AR-15, and then starting to "populate" the rifle! It's financial death by inches, and I've been a repeat victim! But I'm still smiling and looking at the catalogs to see if there's anything I've missed. . . I bought one of the new DP-12 double barreled shotguns a few months ago and it was, in it's purely stock form, the best defense shotgun I've ever had. But now it's wearing a new sight, a new laser, a new flashlight, and I'm awaiting the next accessory release which is a foregrip that has both a laser AND a flashlight built into it! The beat goes on.

    30-06 $230 AR from PSA
    replaced scope with nikon $150
rings and bases $50 or so
few different springs for trigger $5
    epoxy for stock $30

So I would say roughly $500
