Shouldn't be doing that on the first issue. I'd recommend contacting Savage as something clearly isn't right.
Just got a new 555 deluxe from Dicks yesterday and after getting it home, I seem to have found a couple issues. First main problem is that when the gun broken down, the top lever will flip or spring back to center position. This in turn does not allow the barrels to be closed back to the receiver without repositioning the lever back to the right.
The other issue I think be a problem is that the firing pin for the top barrel isn't aligned correctly with the hole it is recessed into.
I was hoping someone had experience with these issues or some guidance as to handle them. I know most will probably suggest to send back to Savage for warranty work.
Here is a YouTube link to a video of the switch flipping back to center.

What did Savage say/do?
Did you ever get the lever issue worked out with savage? I just got a new 555E and it performs similarly.
