    .311 bullets in 30-06

A friend gave me a some reloading components which included three boxes of 180 grain .311 heads for 303. Can I safely use them in 30 cal. and not stress the barrel?

    No, .30-06 uses a .308 caliber bullet.

You could slug your 3006 bore and double check your diameter, but you would have to be really over sized to be happy with those bullets. Could run them through a 308 sizing die, but being jacketed, I would expect them to size hard(I have never tried it). Also, you may get spring back in the jacket and get loose cores.

In the end, it would probably be better to use the correct bullets to start with.
