why not bed the tang on a savage???

hey guys, im going to go ahead and bed my LRPV. I remember reading something about not bedding the tang on a savage. others have said it's fine.

ive done a few rem 700s, and of course i bed the tang, and as you would suspect, everything was fine.

do people say this simply because of the location of the safety? it would actually be easier and faster (and im sure would be just as accurate) to float the tang, but im just wanting to know that the reason for not doing it is.

    thanks,
    Jeremy

Ummmm.....I haven't done it (I've left 'em free floating.....like a woman with no br.....Oh, nevermind ::) ) and they work real good. So, why mess with what works?

Remingtons have a screw through the tang. With a screw, you can pull the tang down firm against the bedding.

Savages don't have that screw. The tang will vibrate and probably damage the bedding.

same as the barrel not free floating, it makes a pressure point that changes with screw tension. or completely holds the back of the receiver off the stock.

I dont because its more trouble than its worth. The safety mechanism is in the tang and I would remove it all before bedding, then have to relieve the bedding for the safety. AS said "it aint no remington". Just dont bother, just fre float it.
